Nov. 3 - Dec. 15, 2016
Tuesdays 3:30-5pm
Taught by renowned art teacher Doris Chen, this course explores the fundamentals of Chinese brush painting. Using liquid ink, water and animal hair calligraphy brushes, students will learn traditional painting techniques to create many lovely paintings, including writing Chinese calligraphy. All paintings will be on mulberry paper. At end of the session, students will have the opportunity to mount and frame their favorite painting for a small fee. We will also hold an exhibition of artworks in December.
Doris Chen has been teaching young artists in the Bay Area for many decades and used to teach this course at JaYing’s old studio, Children’s Art Studio, on High Street, Alameda. Check out her student gallery at www.ChanningArt.com. By the way, two of the featured young artists on her site, Henry and Sara, began lessons with Doris when they were in kindergarten and pre-school at Children’s Art Studio. They continued their lessons with Doris at her Berkeley studio throughout the years, and now Henry will be entering college this fall. Beautiful work!
NOTE: Class fee covers instruction and cost of materials. Refunds will not be given for missed classes, however we will try to accommodate students to make up classes. Be aware that some classes, like Graphic Illustration and Manga, are sequential in skills taught. Teachers will do their best to help the student catch up. After the session ends, any make-up class is forfeited, unless prearranged with teacher.
