Nov. 12 (Sun): Handsewn Journal with Exposed Stitching & Beads
PLEASE NOTE THIS CLASS IS FROM 1 - 4:30PM!
Taught by Berkeley artist Elaine Chu. Create a beautiful multi-signature journal with special thick handmade papers for covers. The exposed stitching with beads on the spine is both decorative and functional. As a finishing touch, sew a closure made from buttons and linen thread - reminiscent of the days of inter-office mail! Great keepsake or gift. Some previous sewing experience helpful but not required. Note: students have the option to choose from all-white handmade paper covers or they can stipple paint to add color.
At end of class, students will be provided with list of supplies and vendors so they can make more journals at home.
Elaine G. Chu is an artist/educator with a background in graphic design, bookmaking and music. Her beeswax art has been published in “Somerset Studio Gallery” magazine.
