Mar. 22 - May 3 (6 Fridays): Intro. to Manga/Anime 4th - 8th
3/22 - 5/3 Six week course, 4th - 8th grade
Meets Fridays (no class April 5 for spring break)
3:30-5pm
Taught by Ken McGhee, Manga (Japanese comics) and Anime (Japanese animation) are hugely popular forms of popular art for youths and adults worldwide. It is a highly stylized genre of illustration, featuring characters who have outsized eyes, a small nose, and a small mouth. Many youths are entranced with this form of illustration and want to draw characters in this style. In this class, Ken will guide students through drawing exercises that allows them to explore the Manga style and to create their own characters. Then, students will develop a storyboard of 2-6 panels depicting their characters through a series of actions. Students will learn the cartooning process of sketching, revising/refining drafts, story boarding, final line art and final inking using professional color pens.
NOTE: Class fee covers instruction and cost of materials. Refunds will not be given for missed classes, however we will try to accommodate students to make up classes. Be aware that some classes, like Graphic Illustration and Manga, are sequential in skills taught. Teachers will do their best to help the student catch up. After the session ends, any make-up class is forfeited, unless prearranged with teacher.
