Jan 24 (Sat): Mosaic Textured Flowers in Frame

This is a very different mosaic technique from most of the mosaic classes taught at the studio. The goal is to create a very textured background and flowers inside a 6"x6" frame. This mosaic will not be grouted so you can take home the same day. Because it will not be grouted, you will be coloring the thinset cement to match the background and flowers. This technique requires you to be neat and careful with placement of pieces. You will use glass shards, some ceramics as well as imported Italian and Mexican smalti (handcrafted colored glass that are thicker than regular art glass). You will also learn to use a hammer and hardie to cut the thicker glass. (The last 3 photos at left are from Pinterest and are for inspiration).
