Sept. 28 (Sat): Slate & Glass Mosaics

First time this workshop is offered. This is a very different mosaic class from my usual mosaic classes, and I'm excited to teach it. This style of mosaic is based on the beautiful works of Rachel Davies, a mosaic artist in Scotland. I highly recommend you check out her social media posts on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook (Rachel Davies Mosaics). You will be creating a 4x4" mosaic using pieces of slate, rocks, other stones and colored glass. Combining natural rocks with pops of intense colored glass creates mosaics that are very unique.
In this class, you will learn to use various tools to break pieces of slate and flagstone. You will also choose from a selection of pebbles, colored glass, beads and even use paint or copper foil to add color to glass or rocks. A considerable amount of time will be spent on creating your design before you place the pieces into cement. The finished piece will not be grouted as the cement will be black. A shallow shadow box will be provided to frame your mosaic, take home the same day.
