Taught by Elaine Dykman. From NPR: "Ukrainians have an ancient springtime tradition of intricately decorating eggs. This art form, called pysanky, has taken on special meaning and urgency this year, due to the war in Ukraine. Now, experts and newcomers are sharing this art to raise money and good wishes for the Ukrainian people".
First, Elaine will explain some of the ancient history and symbolism behind pysanky making. Then she will explain how the egg is prepared for decorating. Your first egg will have patterns pre-drawn and ready to wax. Next she will teach how to use the kistka tool and wax resist batik method. Lastly you will dye the egg multiple times and remove the wax. Students will make one egg with a set pattern, then can make a second egg with their own pattern.
Elaine will donate $50 of the fee to World Central Kitchen's efforts in Ukraine.
